Grown-up Fun: Things to Get Adults Out and About

by Jessica Ward

It’s date night, friends night out, or you are trying to get out of the house more, but you don’t want to do the same-old thing. We could all use some new ideas to shake up our old routines. Anne Arundel County has just the thing to entertain you! From special eats to spa treatments to smashing things, we’ve got you covered.

HIGH TEA, ANNAPOLIS Reynold’s Tavern serves “Traditional English Afternoon Tea and Lunch” which can make for a wonderful gathering of family or friends for high tea. You can dress as fancy or as casually as you’d like while enjoying a wide variety of seasonal tea options. Don’t forget the delicious snacks they offer! ROLLER SKATING, CROFTON Get back to childlike fun by going roller skating! At Skate Zone you will be transported back to the days when you did not have adult responsibilities, and life seemed simpler. Feel the exhilaration of floating on wheels while listening to some popular throwback tunes. You can BYOS (bring your own skates) or rent roller skates and blades there. Reservations are not required but recommended for a large group. SMASH THERAPY, GLEN BURNIE Rage Room is an unusual, yet exciting, way to take out some pent-up aggressions and have a smashing-good time doing it! It can be cathartic to bash a variety of bottles and old electronics. Rage Room provides the space, your weapon of choice, and protective gear to ensure a safe and productive session. They also offer ax throwing and paint splatter. You are guaranteed to feel better after a session here. Make sure to make a reservation, and dress lightly. This is a workout! SALT CAVE OR SALT FLOAT, ANNAPOLIS & SEVERNA PARK Massages and various spa treatments can be relaxing, but salt caves are a new twist on relaxation and healing. Face It! Spa and Wellness in Severna Park has a cave surrounding you in Himalayan salt. This treatment is purported to have numerous health benefits, such as balancing hormones, increasing energy, relaxing muscles, and helping respiratory issues, such as allergies, asthma, and sinuses. Nibana Salt & Wellness in Annapolis has created an “Inner Sanctum” salt cave where you can find refuge from your day-to-day busy life for total relaxation and peace. Grab some friends and feel the stress float away.

Speaking of floating, Float Annapolis in the Heritage Harbour Center immerses you in a sound and light free environment, while you effortlessly float in a highly concentrated Epsom salt and water solution, that brings relief from muscle and joint soreness, enables detoxification, and lowers blood pressure. The serene environment brings your mind complete tranquility and relaxation. MAIN STREET SHOPPING, ANNAPOLIS Play tourist and enjoy the shopping! I love to go to Seasons Olive Oil & Vinegar Taproom and try all the interesting and delicious oil and vinegar samples. Stop by Woodcraft Artisans to see their beautifully and intricately carved wood nautical charts. Then head next door to The Spice & Tea Exchange for tasty samplings of delicious teas. Their nighttime tea can help you relax and wind down for the night. Main Street has several ice cream shops to choose from, so I like to grab a scoop (or two) and sit down by the water.
