The Mothelode Summer 2024

MIMI TIP: Dye the shirts the day before you want to wear them. We rushed to wear them and the colors faded. Follow the provided instructions.

Tie-Dye We designed our own camp shirts with a tie dye party. I bought simple, low-cost white t-shirts and a tie dye kit for about $15. The kids loved it, I made one too, and we still wear them.

Musical Team Painting Game This idea came from a summer camp at Wellness House. I set up a folding table with small painting canvases and lots of paper cups with paints and brushes. I made smocks out of garbage bags, and put the kids by each canvas. I played music, (think musical chairs), and the kids were told to paint anything they wanted on the canvas until the music stopped. Then, they rotated one chair to the right and picked up where the previous painter left off. It was tons of fun, and at the end we had five different paintings created by all of the cousins. At the end of the day, I’ve found that my grandkids just want to spend time with me. It doesn’t always need to be a planned event. Some of our best times have been simple and quickly thought out: tea parties, cupcake icing, planning birthday cake themes, making cookies, going for walks to playgrounds, making funny movies on our phones, or playing catch in the backyard. That’s when we have the best conversations, and I am showing them who I really am, as well as learning who they are becoming.
