How to Maximize Beauty Treatments Between Appointments by Jenn Morson

You think of many things when it comes to your beauty regimen, but do you think of your treatments as an investment? We spend money and time to look our best, and the things we do outside the salon can strengthen or weaken our results, either saving or wasting our money. The Motherlode spoke to several experts about how to maximize those beauty investments between appointments. Ashley Franz, owner, Even Keel Wellness Spa on extending the life of your tan “All of our clients who come to Even Keel get extensive prep information, because the tan takes both 100 percent of our technique, and also 100 percent of client preparation and then maintenance.” “You want to make sure you’re exfoliating and shaving at least eight hours beforehand. The best way to maintain your tan is to have the healthiest skin possible. Use a true moisturizer after exfoliating.” “When you come in for your tan, be completely product- free: no deodorants, perfumes, or body oils. Wear sandals or flip-flops instead of any shoe that will make your feet sweat. “ “After your treatment, wait between two [to] eight hours to rinse, depending on the intensity of the tan you’ve requested. Don’t use any products for at least 24 hours, and only pat dry.” “You need to hydrate both internally and externally. We carry our own tan extender products, but make sure you’re using a good moisturizer that includes DHA. Believe it or not, Summer’s Eve wash keeps the skin pH-balanced nicely!” “You should know that your tan will last between seven to 10 days if you’re just going about town, not exerting yourself. If you’re going on vacation, however, and plan to spend a lot of time sweating or in a pool, your skin cells will turn over more quickly and so will your tan.” Ashley Reed, owner, Face It! Spa and Wellness on quality products “Extending the effectiveness of our treatments is all about the wellness factor. This is why I have the best products at Face It! Spa and Wellness. I can do my part with the treatments, but how clients treat their bodies, give

themselves time to rest, fuel with the right foods, and hydrate is how they help. What I do complements what they do at home.” “This is also why I carry a clean makeup line. Not only am I doing medical-grade facials, I am also making sure clients are walking out the door with makeup that allows their skin to breathe.” Cornelius Payne, owner, Parlour Boutique on protecting your hair “We’re in a time of year where people are traveling, so it’s more hectic getting into the salon. Good, healthy ways of maximizing in-between visits are receiving glazes on your hair – if not a color glaze, a clear glaze, applied every four to six weeks. You need to be protecting that fabric. At Parlour Boutique, we call hair fabric, because that’s what it is. It’s a type of fabric and requires care!”
