6 Things To Consider When You Are Booking An Event Space By Lynne Streeter Childress You have an important event to plan, but where should you hold it? If you don’t want to keep it at your house or place of business, you should book a cool venue for your bash. Here’s some help! Below are a few things to consider when booking a space for your next occasion!

ONE - CONSIDER ACCESSIBILITY Do you have older attendees? People in wheelchairs or who walk with canes? A place with lots of steps and no elevator access may not be the best option. Ensuring guests can safely and comfortably enter your space makes them feel welcome. TWO - CONSIDER HOW “PRIVATE” YOUR EVENT NEEDS TO BE You want a space dedicated to your event, but private only sometimes means private. Annapolis has many restaurants with semi-private dining areas, so your party feels special, but you don’t have to rent out a whole space. Or would you rather go fully private with a ballroom or entire venue? Think about your preference before you start looking. THREE - CONSIDER IF THE VENUE IS KID-FRIENDLY Just because you have young kids at an event doesn’t mean it has to be at a place with clowns and animatronic animals (unless you want that, and if you do, rock on). Make sure that you aren’t creating a situation that either stifles your youngest friends because they aren’t able to wiggle, dance, and be kids OR that you aren’t paying a bunch of money to the venue because your little cousin broke the expensive crystal swan.

FOUR - THINK ABOUT THE SCENERY VIBE YOU WANT Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what’s outside your event space because what’s happening inside is more important. Other times, though, you might want your attendees to have a sensory experience from when they leave their cars. If you’re going to show off the fantastic waterfront views here in Annapolis, find a place overlooking the water (or get on a boat, like with Watermark cruises!). Or maybe you are looking for a cosmopolitan vibe: find a loft space or a ballroom in a downtown setting. Make it a whole thing! FIVE - GETTING THERE You might want to find a place with easy parking or having your attendees meet at a central location and getting them to your party on a chartered bus (or a trolley like Towne Transport Trolley!) Your guests will appreciate it and have a better time at the actual event if you make it uncomplicated to join you. SIX - KNOW YOURSELF AND YOUR ATTENDEES This one could have been the only tip on this list because it’s really the key to booking a great place that honors your event and your guests. Before you decide where your place is going to be, you should know, as much as possible, your dealbreakers and the needs and wants of the people coming to your event. It helps make things more pleasant for everyone, you included, because you should be happy, too.

Whatever your party’s vibe, Annapolis has tons of options! Check out this list of venues that earned the Annapolis Moms Thumbs Up!
