by Duffy Perkins
Does your child twirl through the halls or dream of taking center stage? If you have a budding performer at home, explore these amazing fine arts groups and vibrant creative communities in the area! ANNAPOLIS MUSICAL THEATER COMPANY | ANNAPOLIS Part of the beauty of performing arts training is that children develop confidence and experience personal growth as a result. At Annapolis Musical Theater Company, kids ages 4 to 17 will find a supportive environment to grow their passions for singing, dancing, and acting. Check out their popular spring, summer, and winter camps along with private vocal and acting instruction. ANNAPOLIS SYMPHONY ACADEMY (ASA) | ANNAPOLIS One of the only groups in Annapolis fully focused on exposing children to the joys of classical music, the Annapolis Symphony Academy offers high-level music instruction to children in Anne Arundel County. From early childhood music classes to workshops and studio classes for older musicians, the ASA builds an appreciation for classical music while developing individual students’ unique talents. There are also opportunities to collaborate with local ensembles, musical collectives, and professional symphonies. Upcoming Performances: Orion Youth Orchestra Winter Concert | January 26 ARTS AT INDIAN CREEK SCHOOL | CROWNSVILLE As one of the area’s top private schools, Indian Creek School (ICS) also has a thriving arts program for its students. From a top-tier performance space to highly trained instructors, ICS offers a wealth of opportunities for students, as well as audiences.
BACH TO ROCK | SEVERNA PARK This music center provides music lessons for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Private lessons are available for piano, guitar, drums, voice, and a variety of other instruments. The program also includes beginner classes and ensemble opportunities such as Band and Glee Club. With Bach to Rock, anyone can learn to play music, even those with no prior experience. BALLET THEATRE OF MARYLAND | ANNAPOLIS & GRASONVILLE Nearing its 50th season, Ballet Theatre of Maryland is one of the area’s top ballet conservatories for a reason. Training starts young, with classes in creative movement, ballet, and tap beginning at age three. Later, young dancers have the opportunity to join the professional company in public performances such as The Nutcracker. Dancers outside of high school can apply to the Trainee Program, a bridge between the conservatory and the professional company that offers training during the week and up to 20 performances per season.
