ARUNDEL BAY AREA (ABA) CHAPTER OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INC. is an organization of mothers dedicated to raising the next generation of African American leaders while enhancing the lives of all children. They have been serving various charities in Anne Arundel County since 1990 and work to accomplish their mission through cultural awareness, educational development, health, civic, and social/recreational programming. Recently, the ABA chapter has partnered with Food 4 Thought Community Outreach Services, a local nonprofit committed to helping individuals secure stable housing, providing job training to enhance employment opportunities, and fostering healthy decision- making and self-confidence for those referred to them. They particularly support individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those living in food deserts, below the poverty line, experiencing homelessness, or who are veterans. The ABA Chapter has packed lunches, compiled food baskets for families in need, delivered food baskets, and more. (JLA) has been advancing women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training for over 40 years. JLA offers leadership opportunities to its members, creates community and civic leadership training for women, and makes a social impact through volunteer service. This year, their training team has curated sessions on important topics such as women’s health, fundraising, and advocacy, all designed to strengthen women’s leadership. JLA also provides hundreds of volunteer hours to the community each year, addressing issues like food insecurity and period poverty. In 2024, they celebrated their New Member Class of over 25 individuals who implemented the “School Supplies for Success Campaign.” The campaign collected over 150 items to help teachers at a local Title One elementary school get the supplies they need to enhance the learning experience for economically disadvantaged children. With financial support from Annapolis Rotary Club, JLA also installed a Comfort Cabinet at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall that provides essential menstrual hygiene products free of charge to those in need. This initiative helps ensure dignity and health are accessible to women and girls in the community.
